FORM A-5: Technology Description
Brief of Technology : Decentralized Waste Management Treatment Plant
Segregated Organic Waste ( Kitchen Waste and Garden wastes ) is bio-mechanically treated in the OWC ( Organic Waste Converter ) machine with the help of odor free homogenized coarse powder.
The hard wastes such as garden pruning, bones etc are shredded prior to feeding into OWC machine.
Raw Compost is prepared thru OWC in 15 to 20 minutes.
Matured Compost is made when raw compost is further facilitates accelerated composting process using appropriate curing system at suitable location.
The process of curing methodology takes 7 to 10 days depending on the conditions
The matured compost can be utilized for in-house kitchen gardening, landscaping or for green initiatives such as eco-housing, eco-township
Proposed Capacity: The small plants with Organic waste Converter having the capacity to process wet waste of 2000 to 2200 KG per day ( a cluster of 3400 house holds ). There will be need of approx 200-230 such plants in the respective dhallaows , collection canters .
Land requirement :
100 Sq meters space which is 25 % built-up and 75 % open area for setting –up one Organic waste Converter Plant. This shall be also used for the segregation of waste activity.
Another 500 Sq meters land is required for Mature Composting (Curing of raw Compost) for every 10 Dhallaws/ collection centers. This shall be used for curing the raw compost which takes around 5-7 days , depending the environment conditions.
Mass Balance: 25 % to 35% depends on the environment conditions
Tentative Capital & Operational Cost:
Approx 26.76 Lacs capital outlay for OWC plant towards single cluster of 3400 house Holds having its plant life of 5 Years.
Rs 36.72 lacs Per annum for the operational cost of one cluster of 3400 House Holds.
Annual Capital Cost of Rs 12.59 Cr and Operational Cost of Rs 86.40 Cr if this cluster system is replicated all over EDMC.
Time required for installation and Commissioning: One OWC treatment plant can be set-up in maximum 45 to 60 days.
Project Viability:
Increase in the organized employment ( with ESI/ PF ) by absorbing approx 4000 unskilled and 400 educated workforce. The yearly payout to them is approx. Rs 54.80 Cr. ( 4000 X Rs. 12000+400 XRs. 20,000)
Total value addition of Rs 30.66 Cr. in the GDP – Its Potential to generate High Fertile and organic manure/ matured compost of 61320 MT ( 800000 HH X0.60 X 0.35X 365 Days) Per annual worth of Rs 30.66 Cr. (61320 MT X Rs. 5000 Per MT).
Saving in transportation cost by 40 % as approx 800 MT shall be processed at preliminary stage on EDMC owned Dhallaos/ collection centers itself. To this extent , would eventually alleviate load on existing MSW dumping sites.
The EDMC can earn the annual revenue of Rs 9.19 Cr ( 61320 MT x Rs 1500) by claiming the subsidy of Rs 1500 Per MT from the government by producing this High Fertile and organic manure/ matured compost.
Decentralized solid waste management avoids contamination of soil and water, creates pollution free environment.
Significant money saving measures in annual de-silting of main and small drains
Expected to generate the Mature Compost of high quality organic manure which can fetch High density produce.
Scope for recycling of dry wastes and processing of wet waste as segregation is done at the generation or during collections.
Total Compliance with the national policy as technology is according to SMW Rules 2016.
25 % Manure shall be retained by EDMC and 75 % taken away by the Service Provider.
Life of the Plant : The OWC treatment plant having its useful life of 5 Years.

The Ist Modular Plant will require the Capital Outlay of Rs 26.76 Lacs with the land requirement of 100 sq Meters (25 % built-up and 75 % open area ) for the setting–up OWC plant to prepare the Raw Compost .
Simultaneously, 500 Sq mtrs open land is also required for curing the Raw compost which becomes the matured compost after the 5 to 7 days (depending on the environment conditions) .
All subsequent plants will also require the capital outlay of Rs 26.76 lacs and the land requirement of 100 Sq mtrs, as the same way for the modular plant. However the subsequent Curing system plant shall be needed when nos. of basic plants ( OWC) are more than 10 .
