(05/07/2019) Pakistan have a next-to-impossible task of qualifying for the semis when they take on Bangladesh on Friday in the World Cup 2019, as they will need to win by a margin of 300+ runs. No team ever in the history of ODI cricket has won by a margin of more than 300 runs.

Pakistan will face Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 and will be looking to win by a huge margin to qualify for the fourth spot in the points table after England’s massive 119-run win over New Zealand made it tougher for them.

Sarfaraz Ahmed believes that he can turn the tables, however, and come out triumphant. In the pre-match press conference, the skipper admitted that the loss to Windies in the opening game had a major impact on the Net Run Rate, which has forced them to this position.

But Sarfaraz feels that his team is capable of posting a target of 500 runs if they bat first, even though it will be tough, considering that the edition has seen an average of 280-300 runs being scored.

“We came to England to win. We’re here at Lord’s to win. The mathematics aren’t on our side. We have to be realistic. We’ll try to score 500 but this is a 280-300 World Cup”, exclaimed Sarfaraz.

“The pitches we played on weren’t easy. We can’t look back. That loss to West Indies hurt our net run rate. I know we have to win by 316 runs so we’ll try. Maybe luck is on our side”, said Safaraz.

“We’ll try our best to finish on a high. It’s a World Cup match, hopefully we’ll do well against Bangladesh. I don’t know the reason behind the mathematical target for us”, he further added.

Pakistan will be ruled out automatically if they bowl first at Lord’s.
