Mumbai, 19th July 2023: Actor Pankaj Tripathi has asked audience not to trust ‘what is being written’ about his upcoming film Oh My God 2. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, has sparked interest because reports stated that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) refused to certify it.
It was apparently brought to a review committee in order to minimise controversy after its release. The new film is a sequel to Akshay and Paresh Rawal’s 2012 flick OMG – Oh My God.
According to sources last week, the censor board’s rewriting committee is working to guarantee that the speech and situations in OMG 2 “do not create any issues.” The CBFC has not specified which sequences or dialogues in Oh My God 2 have raised concerns.
Pankaj while talking to Zoom TV said, “ All I will say is, please don’t believe what is being written about it. Log bahut kuch bol rahe hain. Lekin sachchai samne aayegi jab film release hogi (People are saying all sorts of things, but the truth will come out when the film releases).”
Commenting on his role and actong in the movie, Pankaj further added, “Doing a lighthearted comedy is just as tough, if not tougher. With a comedy, an actor has no idea if the audience will finally laugh at what he is creating. We may find the scene hilarious while shooting it. But the audience may not agree.”
According to an India Today article, the CBFC ‘does not want to duplicate the outrage that Adipurush received over its dialogues’. As a “preventive measure,” a review committee will look into the dialogue and scenes in the film.
Oh My God 2 is directed by Amit Rasi and stars Akshay Kumar as a figure inspired by Lord Shiva, while Pankaj plays a Shiva devotee named Kanti Sharan Mudgal. Yami Gautam plays a lawyer in OMG 2. Arun Govil and Govind Namdev are also expected to appear in the film.
