PARALYSING OF DEMOCRACY : BY SHANTONU SEN
The monsoon session of our parliament is a wash out. It was bedlam, it was ruckus and it was revelry. The Congress Party crowed that it was tit for tat. The BJP fumed and froth at the mouth, Their narcissistic leader simply stayed away. He played no role in the logjam in UPA 2. Arun Jaitly did. Let him face it and overcome as well as he can he must have said.
He, Arun Jaitly, failed him. After a record of work in the earlier session no one was buying his logic laying the entire blame on the opposition parties. The Opposition is willing to work for development it had then showed. If it was different this session he had to find an answer. He flunked.
What of the Winter Session? Will it survive and deliver. The last day saw some movement. True, the debate on Lalitgate-Sushma affair was hogwash. But it was better then bedlam and ruckus that has plagued both houses of Parliament the entire monsoon session. Imagine if the Leader of the House were to announce in the session of the combined houses of Parliament proposed at the end of August, that what happened in UPA 2 when Parliament was obstructed by Arun Jaitly and his merry men and what Rahul Gandhi and his ” brigands”have done to the Monsoon session must be deplored ( this word is chosen deliberately) . That should do the trick. Since he was not present in the House on either occasions he is free from any taint.. Simultaneously, back channels should furiously pedal to find a solution to Laligate and its entrapment of both Ladies in the BJP. Since solutions are always found let all concerned seek it out. To me , it appears, that In the present ED exercise of gearing to nail Lalit Modi the solution lies.
