NEW DELHI, Feb 15—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken said people were fed up with the 10-year misrule of the BJP in the three MCDs and the two-year irresponsible and corrupt rule of the AAP government in Delhi, and they were now looking for change, wanting the Congress party back in power, as only the Congress can provide stable and development-oriented governance. Shri Maken said that the people want Congress back in power has been clearly visible in the district conventions organized by the party across the Capital, with their enthusiastic participation. Shri Maken said the constant conflicts between the BJP and the AAP Governments have totally stalled development works in Delhi.

Addressing district conventions today at Rohini and Adarsh Nagar districts, to protest against the faulty demonetization drive and the misrule of the BJP and the AAP Governments, Shri Maken said the three MCDs, under the rule of the BJP, have been dens of corruption and they could not even raise resources to pay the salaries of the sanitation workers while the AAP Government only sold dreams that could not be fulfilled, to betray the people. Shri Maken said the people had given the AAP a massive majority in the Delhi Assembly, believing in their hollow promises, but they now feel cheated and let down. Besides Shri Ajay Maken, prominent others who attended the district conventions were Shri Rajkumar Chauhan, Shri Devender Yadav, Shri Inderjit Singh, Shri Harikishan Jindal and Shri Parveen Bhugra.

Shri Maken said neither in India nor anywhere else in the world such a spectacle had ever been witnessed that the currency notes that were lying in the pockets of the people were reduced to mere pieces of paper in the span of three-four hours by the Modi Government with the ill-planned demonetization drive. Shri Maken said nowhere else in the country, the Chief Minister and his Ministers leave the Capital to tour elsewhere in the country and abroad, as had been done by the AAP, to leave Delhi in the lurch as they were least concerned about the spreading of chikungunya, dengue and swine-flu, which had resulted in many deaths. Shri Maken said elected representatives of the AAP feel suffocated in the party due to mounting corruption and unfulfilled promises, and the Municipal Councillor from the Nanakpura Ward, who was one of the five AAP candidates who won the by-elections to the 13 MCD seats, recently joining the Congress party was proof enough that more leaders want to leave the party and join the Congress. He said the Congress party, which also won 5 wards in the MCD by-elections with BJP winning three, has now six Councillors who had won the by-elections.

Shri Maken said the Congress could improve its vote share and win 5 wards in the MCD bye-elections because the party cadres went for door-to-door canvassing, to have one-to-one interaction with the people, to win over their hearts. Shri Maken said when the party workers went for door-to-door campaigning, they were well-received by the people and voted for the Congress party. Shri Maken said it was essential that the Congress workers make door-to-door canvassing to explain the misrule of the BJP and the AAP to the people, to win over their hearts.

Shri Ajay Maken said though the Congress party has not been in power at the Centre for the past three years and in Delhi for the last two years, people still recall the 10-year rule of the Congress at the Centre and the 15-year rule of the party in Delhi, as the economy was prospering then, and Delhi and the country had witnessed massive development works. He said whatever development works happened in Delhi was due to the efforts of the Congress Governments, as the Congress governments believed in action, and not in rhetoric.

Shri Maken said ever since the Modi Government came to power at the Centre and the AAP Government in Delhi, all development works in the national Capital have come to a total stop. Shri Maken said due to the wrong policies of the BJP-ruled Central Government and the AAP Government in Delhi, businesses have come to a total standstill, leaving lakhs of people unemployed. He said production has stopped in small factories, and because of that, there has been reverse migration of labour.

Shri Ajay Maken said a large number of people stay in unauthorized colonies, JJ clusters and resettlement colonies. He said people in unauthorized colonies have always lived in uncertainty as there was the fear of bull dozers razing down their dwelling units, but neither the BJP nor the AAP has done anything to improve their lot.

Shri Maken said when Congress was in power in Delhi in 2013, the DTC had 5445 buses in its fleet. But instead of enhancing the DTC fleet, there are 1100 less buses in the DTC fleet, during the two-year tenure of the AAP Government in Delhi, causing tremendous hardships to the commuters, as the poor and the middle class solely depend on DTC buses for commuting.
