PM to inaugurate SEBI institute in Maharashtra on Saturday

Mumbai, Dec 20 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly-built campus of SEBI’s National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) at Patanganga near Mumbai on Saturday, officials said.

The NISM is a state-of-the-art academic initiative of the watchdog Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), situated around 75 kms south of Mumbai, in the adjoining Raigad district.

Spread across 70 acres, it performs a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed to enhance the quality standards of and increase public participation in the securities markets.

The NISM campus has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 400 crore through the public-private partnership route and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid its foundation stone as part of SEBI’s silver jubilee in 2013.

Enjoying an autonomous status, its board is led by the SEBI Chairman and comprises six different schools — School for Investor Education and Financial Literacy, School for Certification of Intermediaries, School for Securities Information and Research, School for Regulatory Studies and Supervision, School for Corporate Governance and School for Securities Education.

Presently, the NISM is operating from a building in Vashi, Navi Mumbai offering courses in capital markets, and training and certification of intermediaries.

The same day, the PM will visit Pune to lay the foundation stone for the proposed Pune Metro Railway, the third such metro rail project in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Nagpur.
