PM Modi Conferred with Lokmanya Tilak Award in Pune

New Delhi, 1st August 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Lokmanya Tilak Award on Tuesday at a ceremony at the SP College ground in Pune. PM Modi also had a discussion with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar during the event.Senior Pawar shared the platform with his nephew Ajit Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

PM Modi landed in Pune early Tuesday morning and laid the groundwork for several development projects. Modi also did “pooja” at Dagdusheth Mandir after his arrival.

According to PIB, the Lokmanya Tilak National Award was established in 1983 by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust to recognise Lokmanya Tilak’s legacy. Every year on August 1st, it is delivered to a worthy recipient.

Lokmanya Tilak, a social reformer and Indian freedom leader, died on August 1.

While addressing the event Narendra Modi said, “This is a memorable moment for me…While I am very happy to be here, I am also feeling emotional. Lokmanya Tilak is the tilak of our freedom struggle…The role of Lokmanya Tilak in India’s independence, his contribution cannot be summed up in a few words or by illustrating a few incidents…I pay homage to him and all our freedom fighters. I am honoured to be on Maharashtra soil. This is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji and Jyotirba Phule.”

The Prime Minister went on to say that he has decided to contribute the award’s prize money to the Namami Gange project. “I’ve decided to donate the money from the prize to the Namami Gange project…I’d like to dedicate this award to the country’s 140 crore people,” he remarked.

Pawar also congratulated PM Modi for receiving the award, he said, “Many noteworthy personalities have previously received the Lokmanya award. Today, Modi’s name has been added to the list of these names. I congratulate Modi on being chosen for this honour.”
