PM Modi meets the Couple from Oscar Winning Documentary, ‘The Elephant Whispers’

New Delhi (India), 9th April 2023: During his visit to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Bomman and Belli, also known as “The Elephant Whisperers.”

Bomman and Belli appeared in the documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” which made history by becoming the first Indian-produced film to win the Oscar for “Best Short Documentary Short” at the 95th Academy Awards.

According to Prime Minister Modi, the film “reflects our legacy of the wonderful relationship between nature and creatures.” He praised the documentary and urged people to watch it.

PM Modi during the opening remarks of the Project Tiger 50th anniversary celebration said, “The Elephant Whispers documentary that won an Oscar also reflects our legacy of the wonderful relationship between nature and creatures. I urge you (foreign dignitaries) to take something from the life and tradition of our tribal society.”

In the hilly Nilgiris district’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, PM Modi also paid a visit to the Theppakadu Elephant Camp and spoke with the mahouts and “kavadis” there. Also in the Theppakkadu camp in the tiger reserve, he fed sugarcane to some of the elephants.

Then, as part of activities to commemorate 50 years of “Project Tiger,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on a “safari” at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka.
