PM Modi to visit Japan, Australia to attend multilateral summits

New Delhi, 17th May 2023: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia and attend three key multilateral summits.

Beginning on Friday, the Indian leader is expected to mark his presence at the Group of 7 or the G7 meet and the QUAD summit as well. The trip would begin with a stop at the Japanese city of Hiroshima on May 19, where the annual summit for the G7 advanced economies is scheduled.

The meeting is supposed to address the issues of food, fertiliser and energy security. From there, PM Modi will go to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on May 22 to co-host the third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) meeting with Prime Minister James Marape.

This also marks the first visit by an Indian PM to Papua New Guinea. The final stop of the leg would be at Australia, where Australian PM Anthony Albanese is set to host the QUAD leaders. PM Modi would be joined by the US President Joe Biden and Japanese PM Kishida Fumio.
