New Delhi, July 27, 2023: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of neglecting the ongoing violence in Manipur and holding him responsible for the deteriorating situation in the northeastern state.

In a video message shared by Congress, Rahul Gandhi expressed his concern over the lack of response from the prime minister despite the state being engulfed in turmoil.

“You all saw what’s happening in Manipur. You would have thought that when a state is burning, the country’s prime minister would say something. Many of you would have thought that the prime minister would at least visit Imphal and meet people,” said Rahul Gandhi in his video message.

The Congress leader further asserted that Prime Minister Modi’s ideology has set Manipur ablaze and highlighted that he seems indifferent to the suffering of the women in the region. Gandhi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that they are solely driven by a thirst for power and are willing to go to any extent to achieve it.

“For power, they will burn Manipur, they will burn the whole country. They don’t care about the sorrow and pain of the country,” he emphasized.

The opposition grouping, led by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), has been demanding a statement from Prime Minister Modi in Parliament to address the ongoing violence in Manipur. A viral video incident on July 19, depicting three women being stripped naked and paraded, intensified the opposition’s call for action.

In response to the demand for a statement by the prime minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government is ready to give a statement, but he labeled the request for a statement by the prime minister as a “caveat for disruptions.”

In a significant move, Congress lawmaker Gaurav Gogoi submitted a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha, aiming to corner the government on the Manipur issue and compel a statement from the prime minister. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla admitted the notice for the no-confidence motion on Wednesday, setting the stage for a heated parliamentary debate between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the newly constituted INDIA.

Rahul Gandhi’s outspoken criticism has brought the ongoing crisis in Manipur into the spotlight and intensified the political tension in the country’s legislative arena.
