A grand event was organized on the occasion of 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagrah in New Delhi’s Janpath area.

An exhibition of the documents and pictures of the 100 year old satyagrah was inaugurated by honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

Speaking at the event Dr Mahesh Sharma, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Said, “By following Mahatma Gandhi’s principles we can not only make our lives but also our nation better and great. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Sardar Patel, Bheem Rao Ambedkar all of these great visionary leaders had laid their lives to build strong foundations of this country”.

At this 100th anniversary of Champaran Satyagrah he called for India’s youth to take lessons from lives of these great leaders and make India clean, corruption free and more strong.

Speaking at the occasion PM Modi said, “100 years ago today was the day when Mahatma Gandhi reached Patna and started his journey for Champaran. Farmers of that area as well as complete country first time witnessed power of peaceful agitation. Our history is diversified in multiple traditional and cultural identities. History always teaches us something new as many times as we go through its documentations. Champaran Satyagarah was one of those epic periods learning from which would make us better individuals.
This exhibition of that great historical event will help us to learn and understand the challenges of those tough times.
We have to devote our lives for the nation and we can do it through ‘Swatchagrah’. Same as truth we have to absolve cleanliness in our lives”.

He further said, “Gandhi ji stayed in Champaran for three months and came out as Mahatma Gandhi. It was the power of Satyagrah”.

He also said that at that time Gandhi never said that he was trying to disobey court order but he was fighting for basic rights of Farmers.

PM Modi renewed his vow for clean India at the event and called all Indians to join him to make it successful.
