Global Exhibition on Services 2017 to showcase Services Strength of India

Noida : Hon’ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, has agreed to address the 3rd Global Exhibition on Services (GES 2017) to be held on 17-20 April 2017. This was announced at a roadshow to promote GES 2017, organized by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) at Noida today.

Shri Anup Wadhawan, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, said, “There has been a significant growth in foreign direct inflow in general and to the services sector in particular. The services sector covers almost 50% of the global GDP. GES 2017 is a broad and continuing effort to improve various aspects of the industry especially for exports.” He added that China has agreed to be one of the focus countries at GES 2017.

The 3rd edition of the Global Exhibition on Services is being organized from 17 – 20 April 2017 at India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida. This edition will have an Exhibition space of over 40,000 sqm, Services Conclave and Sectoral Knowledge Sessions as well as several one-to-one business meetings and networking opportunities.

The Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India; the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC); and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) jointly organize the Global Exhibition on Services to provide a fillip to the Indian services sector.

Ms Sangeeta Saxena, Additional Economic Adviser, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said, “GES 2015 saw participation of 60 countries and 10,000 visitors. In 2016, 65 countries participated at the exhibition and there were above 20,000 visitors footfalls. The 2017 edition is expecting 70 countries to participate.” The third edition of GES explores new verticals among the present 20 focus sectors such as Sports Services, Railway Services, Energy Services and Retail & E- Commerce.

The Indian Services Sector is the key driver of India’s economic growth. The sector has grown rapidly over the past decade and has accounted for over 66.1% of the growth in India’s Gross Value Added growth in 2015-16. The sector is also an important net foreign exchange earner and the most attractive sector for Foreign Direct Investment inflows.

GES 2017 will provide a unique platform for Service Sector to explore market expansion opportunities across the globe, learn about relevant global industry trends, and network with their global counterparts, thus enhancing the global competitiveness of the Indian Service sector.
