Protesters from Shaheen Bagh, JNU and Jamia stage massive protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi (29/01/2020): Today, hundreds of protesters from Shaheen Bagh, who have been staging a sit-in against the new Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for over a month, gathered and agitated at Jantar Mantar.

Elderly women of Shaheen Bagh, called ‘dadis’ (grandmothers) were also a part of the anti-CAA protest which is being called ‘Chalo Jantar Mantar’.

Students from Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also joined protesters at Jantar Mantar.

According to the amended law, only members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have came from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 after facing religious persecution there will not be treated as illegal immigrants and will be given Indian citizenship. And thus, much of the Muslim Population of India is agitating against this law.
