Protests break out at Chandigarh University over objectionable videos

Punjab, Sept 18th, 2022: Students at the Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali staged a massive protest after a girl student allegedly recorded and leaked objectionable videos of the other female students of the hostel.

A huge uproar was seen on Saturday as students demanded justice.

Police soon reached the spot and the accused female student was arrested. She allegedly shared videos of almost 60 other girls as they were bathing and also uploaded them on Youtube.

“Electronic devices and mobile phones have been taken into custody and will be sent for forensic examination,” said Mohali Police officer Vivek Soni.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took cognizance of the matter and tweeted, “This is very serious and shameful. All the culprits involved in this will get the harshest punishment. Victim girls have courage. We are all with you. All act with patience”.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.
“Our daughters are our pride. Have ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Whoever is guilty will take strict action. I am constantly in touch with the administration”, Mann said.

The protest was held on the university campus located at Ludhiana-Chandigarh road past midnight.
Further investigation by the police and the cybercrime branch is underway.
