New Delhi : A large number of people, on Sunday, staged a protest in Delhi’s Sarita Vihar demanding the removal of barricades that have been placed on the road linking Mathura Road and Kalindi Kunj for the past few weeks owing to ongoing demonstrations in Shaheen Bagh area near Jamia Nagar.

Road number 13A between Mathura Road and Kalindi Kunj has been closed for traffic movement since last month over the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in the area, causing inconvenience to the commuters and leading to heavy traffic congestion.

The residents of Sarita Vihar urged Delhi Police to go ahead and remove blockade and said that they’re supporting them in the action. “Delhi Police, you open the roads, we are with you,” the crowd chanted.

Large crowd heading towards Sarita Vihar police station was stoped by the Delhi Police. DCP Chinmoy Biswal assured the crowd that soon they will arrange their meeting with Shaheen Bagh protesters & will try to make the road clear.”

Interacting with Ten News, DCP said “We have assured the public here, soon we will arange a meeting with Saheen Bagh protesters and try to make the road clear. I also urged the protesters not to halt the traffic at Mathura road which has been accepted by them. The overall situation is under control & peaceful here.”

One of the protesters attacked Aam Admi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan and alleged him for the ongoing road blockage. “He is the man behind all the agitation & rucks, he offers biryani to the protesters and here our children’s are not being able to go to school from past 27 days.”

Another protesters said “Today we are assured by the police that soon road will be cleared. But if, till Monday road is not cleared then we will make it clear on our own. Second thing is that we don’t have any problem with their protest but it should not trouble others. If they want to protest they can go to Jantar Mantar.”

Earlier, Delhi traffic police, in an advisory had asked those coming from Noida to take Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyway or Akshardham to reach Delhi.

The traffic movement was blocked by the police on the Kalindi Kunj-Sarita Vihar/Jasola stretch (also known as Road No. 13A) in December as a precautionary measure due to large-scale protests against the amended law in and around Jamia Millia Islamia
