New Delhi (India), March 26, 2023: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a noteworthy alteration to his Twitter bio following his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. As per reports, in place of “Member of Parliament,” he has inserted “Disqualified MP” in the bio section beneath his account name.

The Congress party, on the other hand, has organized a nationwide protest against his disqualification that will continue throughout the day.

Rahul Gandhi’s membership in the Lok Sabha was annulled after he was found guilty in a defamation case for making remarks implying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a criminal. Gandhi had made this statement at a pre-election rally in Kolar, Karnataka, stating, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?”

The ruling BJP regarded this as a smear campaign against people belonging to the Modi surname and the backward community, leading to multiple defamation cases filed against Gandhi in different states.

A court in PM Modi’s home state of Gujarat found Gandhi guilty of the charges and sentenced him to two years in prison, but he was granted bail for 30 days to challenge the verdict in a higher court. However, the Congress leader has yet to file a challenge.

Rahul Gandhi’s removal from office has left the Wayanad seat vacant in Kerala. While he was elected from Wayanad, his second seat, in 2019, he lost his long-held Amethi seat in 2004.
