Railways earned Rs 3,439 crore in last three years through reservation cancellations

Mandi, May 30: The Indian Railways have earned over Rs 8,000 crore apart from passenger and freight fares in the last three years. According to a report, Rs 2,500 crores per year has been earned by the railways through reservation cancellation, window waiting ticket, and partly confirmed ticket.

A report in Amar Ujala said the biggest income has been earned by the non-cancellation of window waiting tickets. The confirmation of window waiting ticket is announced just 4 hours before the starting time of trains. And people just get a three-and-a-half-hour window to cancel their tickets.

In the last three years, around 8 crore 89 lakh 24 thousand and 414 passengers couldn’t get their tickets cancelled. This got Railways a whopping profit of Rs 4404 crore. For reservation cancellation, the railways earned Rs 3439 crore 29 lakh and 56 thousand.

The railway ministry is considered as one of the most performing ministries of the Narendra Modi government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi government on May 26 celebrated its third anniversary. Suresh Prabhu had batted for extension of the railway network and for enhancing safety features.
