Ramjas College violence: The face-off between the Left-leaning JNU students belonging to SFI, AISA and DSU and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP backed students belonging to the ABVP over a programme to which was invited Umar Khalid (he is an accused in the anti-national protests in JNU in 2016) and former JNU Students Union vice-president Shehla Rashid has turned into a wider protest. The initial violence had caused outrage to break out forcing even Home Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Home Kiren Rijiju as well as Ramjas Principal Dr Rajendra Prasad weighing in with their views. To this controversy, further fuel has been added by Kargil martyr’s daughter Gurmehar Kaur who has spoken up in favour of ‘freedom of speech’ in the wake of the violence that was unleashed on the Ramjas College campus last week.
