Reckless sharing of SOS messages or videos can have dangerous consequences both for the victims, who are often driven to suicide, as well as for the person who is sharing such messages and may face legal action.

Elaborating on the pattern, IPS Hibu said, “Every SOS message shouldn’t be irresponsibly shared on social media for assistance. Many such disturbed individuals commit suicide as they cannot bear such exposure in social media. I have seen many commiting suicide if their names or jacked hacked certain obscene videos are uploaded in social media.”

He also shared that recently even a young UPSC aspirant had committed suicide over an obscene video going viral.

Hence while trying to help people and seek justice, it is very important to be responsible for the type of content one is sharing on social media.

“This is a worrisome trend. My request to you all not to share such sensitive SOS messages or videos,” Hibu stated.
