Delhi 25th January 2016 :Indian Youth Congress hold Protest March at Delhi University for the dalit student Rohith Vemula who died for Dalit rights . Protest March started from Vishvidyalaya Metro Station to Delhi University.

Hundreds of Youth joined a protest march in solidarity with the ongoing nationwide protests against the state motivated murder of a research scholar of Hyderabad Central University, Rohith Vemula.

The IYC President Amrinder Singh Raja strongly condemns the shameless & irresponsible attitude of MHRD, union ministers Bangaru Dattatraya, Smriti Z. Irani and Vice Chancellor & administration of HCU and demands the stringent and quick action against the culprits responsible for the tragic and untimed death of the “dalit” research scholar cum activist Mr. Rohith Vemula.

The tragic suicide of Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula and the culpability of Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and ABVP activists in abetting this act is a glaring example of Modi Government’s anti-Dalit agenda.

In Hyderabad, five Dalit students were expelled from their hostels and denied stipends on the basis of mere allegations that they had beaten up an ABVP leader. The ABVP leader claimed he had to be hospitalized because of internal injuries. According to a report by the DNA newspaper, the medical officer’s deposition stated that the ABVP leader was operated upon for appendicitis.

Union Minister Shri Bandaru Dattatreya even wrote a letter to the HRD ministry, calling the students of Ambedkar Students’ Association as “casteist, extremists and anti-national.” The University VC did not bother to cross check the ABVP account. He went ahead and suspended the 5 students, including Vemula.

According to NCRB Report, 2015, there has been a 20% increase in violence against Dalits under PM Modi.
