Runway 34, not an easy film to shoot : Director and Actor Ajay Devgn | TEN NEWS Special Story

New Delhi (11/04/22): In the trailer 2 launch of the film Runway 34, directed by Ajay Devgn, starring Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh, Ajay Devgn says that being the director, actor and producer of the film was challenging but he is not scared of hard work.
The cast was trained for days to understand the technicalities of the cockpit. “We shot in a real simulator, it was not a set. It was important to know how it functions”, Rakul Preet adds.
The team kept constant touch with the ATC (Air Traffic Control) and pilot was to ensure that there were no inaccuracies regarding the technicalities, jargons and processes of a turbulence situation.
We were careful to use the right switches and buttons. I wanted to keep everything authentic and with the support of the ATC and a captain the film was made possible, says Ajay Devgn.
The film has tried to show the real situation and problems faced by the passengers, pilots, ATC and other people during the flight turbulence. What made it easy for me to shoot was the direction by Ajay Sir and guidance of Amitabh Bachchan Sir. I must say Ajay Sir is great with technicalities, says Rakul Preet.
It was challenging to create the required drama in the “cockpit” as it is quite a small space to shoot. Seven cameras and a Jimmy jib were accommodated in the cockpit, making it further difficult for the production team to create the atmosphere of fear, panic and turbulence.
“It was not tough but challenging and I was quite excited to do it,” says Rakul Preet.
The production of the film also went through a change of name. Earlier, the film was decided to be named ‘Mayday’, however, the term was being misinterpreted by people as they thought it was related to Labor Day . Therefore, the production changed the name of the film to Runway 34. It was the runway which the plane lands on in the film.
However, with a positive spirit and dedication the film was made possible and was completed on time for the audience to watch it on 29th April 2022.
When the host asks the actor about the difficulty in playing triple roles for the film, “I love my work and I am not scared of working hard,” says Ajay Devgn.
