Gurgaon: Sushant Lok 1 residents alleged misuse of funds by the RWA, despite the latter signing a tripartite agreement with a maintenance company and the developer, at the annual RWA meeting on Sunday.

In June 2015, the RWA signed a MoU with the developer and a maintenance firm, deciding to deposit their funds in a joint account. Since then, residents said the society’s maintenance become worse.

“In the past few months, theft and snatching has increased, while the RWA was busy issuing permits for new tea stalls and kiosks all over the colony. Garbage collection is erratic. Roads have never been repaired. It has become worse in the last 4-5 months. It seems the maintenance fees we pay are still being misused,” said Suparna, a resident.

Residents said they are paying Rs 2.75 per sq yd as maintenance fee.

RWA member Sudhir Sachdeva also alleged the association is not willing to share powers. “In the MoU, a separate monitoring committee and sub-committees, comprising up to 150 residents, were proposed to be formed to ensure quality services and hiring of vendors at optimal prices,” he said.
“Besides, 10 committees with different roles, such as security, water, electricity, religious, sports, functions, etc, had been announced, to get active residents involved. However, in the current set up, the 5 executive members alone have scope to be active, as the RWA doesn’t appear it wants to share power. Perhaps to misuse funds?” he added.

Residents also allege the RWA doesn’t address their grievances. “Whenever we’ve tried to get in touch with RWA members, they’re unavailable,” said another resident requesting anonymity.

SLRWA president Dr Nagpal told TOI, “We’re facing a fund shortage. Less than 50% residents have paid maintenance fees. Many didn’t pay up as MCG had announced it would take over. As for committees and sub-committees, they are all in place. There are some with vested interests, who lost the recent RWA polls, and are making an of it.”

One of the biggest RWAs in the city, Sushant Lok Residential Welfare Association has about 1600 members. Over 6,000 families live in Sushant Lok I.
