Saffron Sweeps UP MLC Elections 2022, But Loses Varanasi

Uttar Pradesh, 12th April, 2022: The BJP today recorded a massive win in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Elections 2022, sweeping 33 out of 36 seats. Out of these 36, 9 seats were won unanimously.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated all the candidates for their victory. “Once again it is proven that the people are happy with the growth and development of the country under the guidance and governance of the respected PM Narendra Modi,” CM Adityanath said.

According to the UP chief electoral officer, about 98.11% of the people voted for the MLC elections across about 58 districts in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP has managed to win seats at Ballia, Barabanki, Sitapur, Basti, Lucknow-Unnao among others. However, in Varanasi, the BJP has lost the key seat to the wife of a “Mafia don” (Brijesh Kumar Singh), Annapurna Singh, an independent candidate with around 170 votes only.

Other 2 seats went to the independent candidates in Azamgarh and Pratapgarh. While SP had to experience a humiliating defeat with no seats in hand.
