#Samsung launches Galaxy Tab Iris with iris recognisition tech at Rs 13,499

Samsung launched the new Galaxy Tab Iris, a tablet equipped with Iris recognition technology in India on Wednesday at a price of Rs 13,499. The Galaxy Tab Iris, being touted as a highly secure biometric device has been developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-ambitious Make in India initiative.

The tablet is ready for Aadhar authentication and will aid in paperless and cashless services in various applications like banking, along with eGovernance services like passport, taxation, health care and education, says the company.

The Galaxy’s Tab Iris is also UIDAI compliant and can be used for child enrolment programs where biometrics of the parent is used to authenticate children for Aadhar enrolment. Moreover, it can also be used for accessing citizen services like E-PDS, MNREGA, pension schemes and various subsidy programs in the country.

Coming to hardware specifications, the Tab Iris comes with a 7-inch WSVGA display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 200GB via microSD card slot.

The tablet supports 3G and runs Android Lollipop out-of-the-box. It is backed by a 3,600mAh battery.
