Sanjay Arora appointed Police Commissioner of Delhi

New Delhi, 31 July 2022: The Central government has appointed Sanjay Arora as the new Commissioner of the Delhi Police. Arora is from the 1988-batch Tamil Nadu cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and the current Director-general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

On September 1 of last year, Arora assumed leadership of the DG-ITBP. Prior to that, he led the ITBP as its commandant from 1997 to 2002 while serving as the Special Director-General in the CRPF.

Arora joined those who founded the Special Security Group (SSG) in 1991 to protect the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, where the LTTE was active, after receiving training from NSG. From 2002 to 2004, he was also Coimbatore’s police commissioner. Additionally, he has held the positions of Villupuram range deputy inspector general of police and deputy director of vigilance and anti-corruption, said ITBP officials.

Addressing the new appointment of Sanjay Arora as the Delhi’s Police Commissioner, B G Krishnan, Director of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Police division, MHA, dated July 31, 2022, has sent the competent authority’s approval for Sanjay Arora’s inter-cadre deputation from Tamil Nadu Cadre to AGMUT Cadre. Sanjay Arora is appointed as the new Delhi Police Commissioner in accordance with the sanction, effective August 1, 2022, or the date of taking over command, whichever comes first and continuing until further orders. This order is being issued with the appropriate authority’s consent.”
