Sanjay Leela Bhansali teams with Hollywood Agency WME to explore prospects in West

Mumbai (India), 22nd April 2023: Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the veteran and iconic Bollywood director, may be considering career prospects in Hollywood. According to Deadline, the seasoned director and his production company, Bhansali Productions, have partnered with WME (William Morris Endeavour), a Hollywood talent agency.

Bhansali is accustomed to receiving worldwide attention. Most notably, Devdas, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Gangubai made its film festival debut in Berlin. The historical drama ended up being one of the most watched Indian films on Netflix ever and brought lead Alia Bhatt recognition on a global scale.

However, the period drama series Heeramandi, which Bhansali revealed last year, is the project he is currently working on and is his most well-known worldwide endeavour. The project just received a significant boost in promotion when Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, travelled to Mumbai and met with Bhansali.

Bhansali said, “Switching to digital, I increased its size. Heeramandi is the largest project I’ve ever produced because of its enormous scope…I had to make Sarandos proud by doing something unique.”

RRR director SS Rajamouli joined the CAA agency in Hollywood last year, and Jr. NTR and Ram Charan had also held discussions with Hollywood producers over potential possibilities of roles.

Other than Bhansali Shekhar Kapur, Tarsem Singh, and Mira Nair are three other Indian directors who have achieved international acclaim.
