SC grants interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram in ED case

New Delhi : Supreme Court granted interim protection from arrest to former Union Minister P Chidambaram in ED case but no relief in CBI case. The two bench held by R Banumathi and AS Bopanna, deferred Chidambaram’s plea which was related to the CBI’s probe in the case he was arrested for, on Monday.



Chidambaram is alleged for two cases of corruption and money laundering linked to INX Media by CBI and ED.

P Chidambaram has been remanded by CBI for four days till August 26, he was arrested from his residence in Jor Bagh, Delhi.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta from the side of the prosecuting agencies argued, “The High Court order had come after it saw the case diaries, ” adding that Peter and Indrani Mukherjea had met Chidambaram on the money laundering charges, in which the former Union Minister had assured FIPB clearance to them, asking them to take care of his son’s (Karti Chidambaram) interests.
