New Delhi, 18th May 2023: Supreme Court on Thursday gave a stay on order by the West Bengal government that banned the screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state.
Announcing thr order the officials added that the West Bengal government is duty-bound to maintain law and order in the state and that law could not be used as an excuse to ‘put a premium’ on public intolerance.
The order came as a response to a plea filed by the makers of the ‘Kerala Story’ who fought for a removal of the ban on the film. Following the verdict, they also emphasised the situation in Tamil Nadu, where the state government has claimed the theatres stopped screening the movie on their own accord and that the government had no involvement in the issue whatsoever.
The SC ordered the Tamil Nadu government to not take any steps restraining the screening of the movie and ensure the safety of all the movie goers.
