‘Self Defence Winter Camp’ at Universal Public School Delhi
The Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of Delhi Police is exclusively dealing with women safety issues and representing Delhi Police on various forums. However, in view of increasing need to give special consideration to women, the Special Police unit for Women and Children is imparting Self Defence training to girl/women since 2002 in primarily marginalized sections of society for empowering them through training in martial arts. Through this wing, girl students, housewives across the NCT of Delhi are trained in basic Self Defence Techniques and taught how to make use of things like ‘Dupatta’, Pen, Handbags and other items available with them to protect themselves from attacks by anti social elements, criminals, snatchers etc. We try to reach out particularly in vulnerable areas of the society, new settlement colonies etc. This training helps in building the self confidence in girls/women so that they do not feel vulnerable and also encourage them to join profession combat courses in future. We are organizing self defence techniques training classes, summer and winter camps, as well as one day self defence workshops all over Delhi, free of cost.
Since 2002 till date total 1968 self defence training programmes have been conducted and total 3,64,469 participants i.e. school/college girls students, housewives and girls in educational institutions across the NCT of Delhi have been trained in basic self-defense techniques. Whereas during the year 2015, 789 programmes were conducted and 2,10,486 participants trained by Delhi Police.
In order to further streamline the self defence training programme, Commissioner of Police, Delhi launched Self Defence Manual & C.D. on 05.06.2015 at Siri Fort Auditorium. A CD containing the 04 short video clipping titled “Delhi Police-Mahila Suraksha Abhiyan (I, II, III & IV) has also been prepared by SPUWAC for screening amongst general public for awareness of girls/women.
During the winter session 2015-16, SPUWAC has organized 2nd Self Defence Winter Camp from 26.12.2015 to 08.01.2016 at the following locations of Delhi. Participants registered themselves in these venues are also mentioned against the venues:-

This unit has recently started Gender Sensitization training programme for boys and during the year 2015, 11130 students of 43 Schools and 2876 boys during the winter camps 2015-16 have been sensitized.
In order to empower women and spread awareness amongst general public this unit has also organized 35 Shows of “Nukkar Natak / Street Plays” at different venues in Delhi.
