New Delhi: Irked with the constant harassment of girls during the Holi on public places, student of the Jesus and Mary College (JMC) protested outside the Delhi Police Headquarter and demanded action and intensify police patrolling.Hundred of student gathered outside the Delhi Police headquarter and raised slogans against the Delhi police for inadequate security in the National Capital.
Yesterday, two bike-baron youths threw semen-filled balloons on a student of Jesus and Mary College (JMC) while she was alighting from a bus at Shakarpur bus stop. The similar incident happened on February 27, 2018 with a student of Lady Shri Ram College. When they tried to raise an alarm the commuters and passers-by said ‘Bura Na Mano Holi Hai’.
However, when she went to the Police to lodge a case, police said there is no special provision for such act.
The issue irked the student and they launched a protest at the Delhi Police Headquarter for the action and proper security of the women during the festival. While talking to Ten News, President of JMC, Raavi Jotwani said, “This is not the only incident which is happening today or yesterday. It happens before every big festival. People molest and harass girls on public places in the name of festival. This should be stop either through law enforcement or making new laws. Girls are not safe in Delhi-NCR region.”
While the professor of JMC college, Anita said that balloon is the not only weapon to harass girls they also use condom filled with semen. “We are appealing to the Delhi police to wake up from slumber and provide adequate policing and patrolling so the women can feel safe.”
