Sensex slumps for the seventh consecutive day
September 29, Mumbai: The benchmark Sensex in India fell more than 650 points from the day’s high in the afternoon session on Thursday, pulled down by significant selling in IT and oil companies.
At 1.30 p.m., the 30-stock S&P BSE Sensex was trading 170.44 points, or 0.30 percent, down at 56,427.84 points, compared to its previous day’s finish of 56,598.28 points.
Earlier in the day, the Sensex opened substantially higher at 56,997.90 points and soared to a high of 57,166.14 points in the early morning session. In the afternoon session, the market saw severe selling pressure, sending the Sensex down to 56,314.05 points.
For the eighth day in a row, the market is under selling pressure. On Wednesday, the Sensex fell 509.24 points, or 0.89 percent.
