Shekhar Kapur shares his plans to make a Project Similar to Harry Potter

New Delhi (India), 3rd April 2023: The Harry Potter film like franchise will be developed in India, according to director Shekhar Kapur, who is renowned for his works on Mr. India and Paani. The director continued by saying that the series is intended for the Indian market because they are so “used to other worldly things.”

In a recent interview with Times Of India, Shekhar Kapur discussed his desire to produce a movie in India and disclosed that he intends to create the “Indian equivalent” of the popular fantasy film series. “I am genuinely working on a project that could be compared to India’s Harry Potter. I’m not making Harry Potter. But an equivalent to it.”

Shekhar Kapur, further added, “That genre of Harry Potter because I think in India, with the market we have, we are so used to things that are otherworldly. We’ve grown up with those kinds of stories. I am now developing and probably will make a film franchise like Harry Potter, that comes out of India and not the West.”

Shekhar Kapur also discussed SS Rajamouli’s Oscar victory in 2023 and referred to it as a “audacious film.” Speaking of the same, the director discussed how RRR differs from the period when his own film ‘Elizabeth’ received an Oscar nomination.

He said, “I went out and I got nominated for nine Oscars for my first film. But it was still Elizabeth. It wasn’t about us. I made it through the lens of an Asian person, the eyes and mind of an Asian person.”
