New Delhi, 5th July 2023: Bullets were fired on the premises of Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court after an argument between lawyers occurred. The shooting occurred about 1.35pm in the court premises within the jurisdiction of Subzi Mandi Police Station.
According to DCP North Sagar Singh Kalsi, two groups of lawyers, including Tis Hazari Court office bearers, allegedly shot in the air over an altercation.
However, the event did not result in any injuries. According to Kalsi, the situation is now normal and legal action is being taken.
Kalsi said in a statement, “A firing incident took place around 1.35 pm on Wednesday in Tis Hazari court. When police reached the spot, it was learned that two different groups of lawyers, including office bearers, had allegedly shot in the air and no one was injured.”
A supposed video from the event shows a man disguised as a lawyer firing a pistol-like weapon into the air while two other men dressed similarly appeared to pelt stones. The cops were unable to immediately confirm the clip’s authenticity.
KK Manan, Chairman of the Delhi Bar Council, condemned the incident and promised a thorough investigation.
He said, “It will be inquired if the weapons were licensed or not. Even if the weapons were licensed, no lawyer or anyone else can use them like this inside or around court premises.”
