Sidhu Moosewala Murder Case: Accused Sachin Thapan Extradited from Azerbaijan by Delhi Police Special Cell

New Delhi, August 1, 2023: In a significant development, Sachin Bishnoi, alias Sachin Thapan, a key accused in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, was extradited to India from Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday by the Delhi Police Special Cell. Sachin Bishnoi had taken responsibility for the killing of Sidhu Moosewala just two days after the fatal shooting.

HGS Dhaliwal, the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, confirmed the extradition, stating, “Today, Special Cell has extradited Sachin Bishnoi from Baku, Azerbaijan.”

According to reports, the Delhi Police Special Cell team had been dispatched to Azerbaijan to apprehend Sachin Bishnoi, who had fled the country using forged documents. They reached Azerbaijan on Sunday and successfully completed the legal formalities to bring him back to India.

Sachin Bishnoi had escaped to Dubai with a fake passport issued under the name of Tilak Raj Tuteja, a resident of Sangam Vihar in southeast Delhi. From there, he further fled to Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, where he was detained.

The extradition process faced a hurdle when Sachin Bishnoi appealed before a higher appellate authority in Azerbaijan to prevent his extradition. However, after the appeal was rejected in July, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) authorized the Delhi Police to proceed with the extradition.

Notably, last week, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Vikramjeet Singh, alias Vikram Brar, another key aide of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, following his deportation from the UAE to India. Vikram Brar is also implicated in the murder of Sidhu Moosewala.

Apart from the Moosewala case, Vikram Brar was involved in targeted killings of innocent individuals and businessmen. He was also connected to weapon smuggling and extortion cases in India, working in collaboration with notorious gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and others.
