Smooth start to week after quota gridlock

Gurgaon: When it comes to traffic, Gurgaon’s Mondays are generally manic. But this Monday was a breeze, thanks to a combination of fewer cars on the roads and withdrawal of the Jat quota protests that had crippled the city over the weekend. Most of the city’s multinational companies had advised their employees, specially women, to work from home, and others to start early. Schools and colleges remained shut following the advisory from the administration.

So, those who drove out reached their destinations at a canter.”We had received a mail from the office asking us to stay at home in the wake of the ongoing agitation,” said Babita Singh, an IT professional at Ericsson.Megha Jha, spokesperson for Nagarro, said though the situation had turned out peaceful, they had abided by the district administration’s notice and asked women employees to work from home.”An organisation has to be flexible in such times. We also started work an hour early, so that we can finish early.” The scene was similar in Fidelity India. Many women coming to Gurgaon from Delhi and NCR chose not to drive.”The situation appears volatile. Though I’ve heard it has improved, I did not want to take a chance and hence chose to stay home,” said Mayoori Roy, who commutes from Delhi.Women across the IT sector put their ‘flexi-work’ option to use.
