Madhya Pradesh, Sept 15th, 2022: Launching the world’s first cheetah intercontinental translocation project, PM Modi has arranged for eight cheetahs from Namibia, South Africa to be relocated to the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, arriving on his birthday 17th September.
A specially customized Boeing 747 jumbo jet reached Namibia’s capital, Windhoek on Thursday to bring the cheetahs to India.
The aircraft bringing the cheetahs to India has been modified to allow cages to be secured in the main cabin but will still allow vets to have full access to the cheetahs during the flight. It has been painted with the image of a tiger.
Cheetahs will have to spend their entire air transit period empty stomach since such a long journey may create nausea-like feelings in animals leading to other complications.
The eight cheetahs, five female, and three male will be first flown to Jaipur, Rajasthan from Namibia via a 16-hour long flight. They will then be flown to Madhya Pradesh in helicopters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release these cheetahs into the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on his birthday on September 17.
