Hiroshima, Japan, 20th May 2023: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Japan to attend the G7 Summit, delivered a message of peace today, and unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the country.

The bust of Mahatma Gandhi is symbolic of the peaceful and non-violent ideas that he stood for. Tweeting an image from the inaugural ceremony, the Indian leader stated that the world gets frightened when they listen to the word ‘Hiroshima’, referring to the nuclear attack by the US during the Second World War, which killed nearly 140,000 people.

The Bodhi tree that the Indian PM had gifted to the Japanese leader in his earlier visit was planted in Hiroshima, the first military target of a nuclear weapon in human history.

Indian PM Modi arrived in the Japanese city to attend the G7 Summit scheduled for May 19 to May 21.
