New Delhi, 17 October 2022: The Supreme Court denied Manoj Tiwari’s appeal against the Delhi High Court’s decision to uphold the trial court’s summons against him in a criminal defamation case on Monday.
However, a bench made up of Justices S Abdul Nazeer and V Ramasubramaniam accepted BJP leader Vijender Gupta’s request to appeal the high court’s decision.
The bench stated, “We have granted the appeal by Vijender Gupta and dismissed the appeal by Manoj Tiwari on the grounds that the history of the law commission report was not properly traced.”
Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi had filed a private defamation complaint against the BJP leaders for allegedly accusing him of corruption.
Members of Parliament Tiwari, Hans Raj Hans, and Pravesh Verma, as well as MLAs Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Gupta and BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana, were named in Sisodia’s complaint against them for allegedly accusing him of corruption in connection with Delhi government school classrooms.
Sisodia has further said that every accusation leveled against him by BJP leaders collectively and individually was untrue, disparaging, and made with the objective to destroy and undermine his goodwill.
