Swaraj Abhiyan Condemns the cowardly act of ABVP goons who disrupted Prashant Bhushan’s meeting in Aligarh.

Swaraj Abhiyan organised a discussion on the topic “वास्तविक अमन के लिए भ्रष्टाचार से मुक्ति जरूरी” (“Real peace requires freedom from corruption”). Shri Prashant Bhushan (President Swaraj Abhiyan) , Anmol (Swaraj Abhiyan), Mohd Hashim (Swaraj Abhiyan Aligarh), Faizul Hasan (President Student Union AMU), Om Pal Chauhan (Swaraj Abhiyan Muzaffarnagar)  participated in the discussion. The discussion was presided over by the vice President of the Ulema Council and conducted by Lubna Siddique. Archana Srivastava (President Swaray Abhiyan Uttar Pradesh Unit) gave the vote of thanks.

Prashant Bhushan raised the issue of legislative disruption that the Modi Govt. is causing to the cause of anti corruption. From PoCA to Whistle Blower bill to allowing anonymous donations, Modi Govt is destroying all the anti corruption machinery in our country. AMU students Union President Faizul Hasan appealed the students to be torch bearers of peace and development irrespective of religion. Anmol explained to the audience how irrespective of 70 years of Political freedom, Human Welfare indicators in India are at an abysmal low. Our neighbours are at a higher rank than us in many indicators Vice President of ulema Council appealed to the common citizens of this country to keep aside all the distractions and work for unity that has been existing in our country since much before independence. Om Pal Chauhan made a fiery speech and explained the role of corrupt bureaucracy in siphoning off the funds. Prashant Bhushan interacted with girl students of D S College and encouraged them to achieve success and not be deterred by patriarchal mindset.

However, midway through Prashant Bhushan speech, ABVP true to their usual self disrupted the meeting with abuses and slogans Swaraj Abhiyan condemns the cowardly act of ABVP goons who disrupted Prashant Bhushan’s meeting in Aligarh. When Prashant Bhushan started speaking about muzzling of institutions and legislations and other cases of corruption like Birla Sahara and Pul Diaries, ABVP members disrupted the meeting. The hooligans started raising slogans against Prashant Bhushan and moved aggressively towards the stage.

Police remained mute spectator for about 15 minutes and allowed the ABVP to continue the disruption.

The AMU students Union president offered to leave the stage, in order to let the program go on peacefully. Police allowed the ABVP goons to abuse Prashant Bhushan and only after a good 15 minutes had passed, police escorted the hooligans out to which they did not resist. It seemed like a fixed match between police and hooligans.
It has now become a regular feature in Uttar Pradesh in particular where hooliganism overpowers the basic right to freedom of speech.

Swaraj Abhiyan condemns the cowardly act of the goons and questions the UP police in its role of tacit support to the hooligans.
