Tamil Nadu, Sept 21st, 2022: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday, urging him to initiate rescue operations for 300 Indians, including 50 Tamilians held captive in the country of Myanmar.

Almost 300 Indians have been held in captivity by an illegal gang in the Myawaddy region which is not under the jurisdiction of the Myanmar government.

The captives were initially promised jobs in Thailand but were lured away to Myanmar.

Asking PM Modi to initiate efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs, Stalin alleged that the Indians stuck in Myanmar are being made to do illegal activities like cybercrime.

“As per the reports received, the stuck Indians are also being physically assaulted by their employers on their refusal to do so,” the letter said.

Stalin further said that the Tamil Nadu government got in contact with 17 captive Tamilians who are desperately seeking the help of the Indian authorities.
In the letter, he requested PM Modi to instruct the MEA to work with the concerned authorities in Myanmar to ensure the safe return of Indians.

According to reports, the Indian embassy is working with the Myanmar government to rescue the captives.
