New Delhi, 05th June 2023: Indian conglomerate Tata Group signed an agreement with the Gujarat government to set up a giga-factory for manufacturing lithium-ion cells in the state.

The Tata Agaratas Energy Storage Solutions Pvt., a subsidiary of Tata Group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the factory that would have a production capacity of 20 gigawatt hours. The notification by the state department added that the investment would be instrumental in creating direct and indirect employment for more than 13,000 people.

The plant’s overall expected cost is around Rs. 13,000 crore and looks to put Gujarat as a leader in lithium-battery manufacturing. The State government added that the private group will receive assistance in setting up a production eco-system.

This comes as the Jaguar Land Rover is considering setting up a major EV battery plant in Britain. Tata favours a factory in England over Spain after the UK government offered a support package.
