Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh arrested for derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad

Telangana, August 23rd, 2022: BJP lawmaker T Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday hours after he allegedly made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad that sparked protests in Hyderabad.
G Koteshwara Rao, a local police officer, said Singh was booked under the Indian Penal Code’s Sections including 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion).
Activist Wajihudiddin Salman filed a police complaint against Singh stating that he used vulgar language against the Prophet in a video uploaded on a YouTube channel named “Sree Ram Channel, Telangana” late on Monday night. The video was later removed.
Protests broke out after his alleged 10-minute-long video during which he also took a swipe at comedian Munawar Faruqi.
The protestors said that Singh hurt their religious sentiments and demanded his immediate arrest. They threatened to intensify their protests if Singh was not arrested within 24 hours.
A huge crowd had gathered outside the Commissioner’s office and soon after the protestors were arrested by police and shifted to different stations.
Over 200 Muslim protestors were arrested by the police forces as they tried to enter the Commissioner’s office.
Raja Singh, who is often in the news for his inflammatory speeches, was later taken into protective custody by the police.
