The statue, which has an overall height of 175 feet, including a 50-foot-high circular base resembling the edifice of the Parliament of India, is claimed to be the tallest statue in the country ever built for Dr. Ambedkar.
Renowned sculptors Ram Vanji Sutar and his son Anil Ram Sutar, who also designed the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, designed the iconic structure. The statue weighs 474 tons, and 360 tons of stainless steel were used for building the armature structure, while 114 tons of bronze were used for casting the statue.
The entire premises, spread over 11 acres, have been beautified with landscape and greenery on 2.93 acres, and the pedestal on which the statue is installed has three floors with a total built-up area of 26,258 sq ft.
The structure will house a museum, a library, and a 100-seat auditorium for presenting audio-visuals of Ambedkar’s life. Additionally, there are two lifts for visitors to reach the top of the pedestal to reach the feet of Ambedkar.
The unveiling of the tallest statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is a significant milestone for Telangana and marks a fitting tribute to the legendary architect of India’s constitution.
