To all collectors CC:- SPs/Divisional Commissioners/IGPs

As you are aware, Government of India have demonetised Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes with effect from midnight today, I.e from 8th November midnight. The measure has primarily been done to curb the menace of black money, fake currency and corruption. However for 72 hours or till November 11, hospitals(with doctors prescriptions), railways/bus/air tickets booking counters, petrol/diesel/gas stations of PSU Companies, milk booth and crematorium/burial grounds and consumer cooperatives stores of Government will accept the 500/1000 denomination. It is pertinent to note that notes of Rs 100 and lower denominations will continue to remain valid. Deposit of old notes of 500/1000 in banks/post offices accounts can be done from November 10 till December 30, 2016, by producing valid Aadhar Card/PAN Card. The limit of exchange, however shall be limited to Rs 4000 till November 24, which be increased subsequently. There might be opposition from various quarters including opposition parties. It is therefore incumbent upon you to immediately chalk out an action plan to mitigate the impending agitation, which might hit roads from tomorrow morning. May please talk to your SPs and devise a strategy to address consequent law and order issues. The message should be percolated down the line I.e till concerned Tehsildar and SHO. In case of any exigencies, may please inform state control room without fail. All of you should talk to your concerned Commissioners/IGP. They have specifically been sensitised to monitor the situation. Pr Secretary, Home
