New Delhi (30/07/22): Union Health Ministry announced that cigarette packets to come up with new Health Warnings soon.
A new set of specific health warnings have been put on every tobacco product packaging, according to the Union Health Ministry. The revised rules will be in force beginning on December 1 of this year.
All tobacco products produced, imported, or packaged on or after December 1, 2022 will bear an image and the text “Tobacco Causes Painful Death,” according to the Ministry.
According to the statement, any goods created, imported, or packaged after December 1 of the next year must bear a graphic and the wording “Health Warning – Tobacco Users Die Younger.”
Any individual involved directly or indirectly in the production, supply, importation, or distribution of cigarettes, according to the Ministry, is required to make sure that all tobacco product packaging carries the required health warnings.
The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 provides that violating the clause is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment or a fine.
