Tragic Accident on Mumbai-Pune Highway: 12 Dead, 27 Injured as Bus Plunges into Gorge

New Delhi (India), April 14, 2023: In a heart-wrenching incident, a private bus carrying members of a traditional music group met with a terrible accident on the old Mumbai-Pune highway in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Saturday.

The bus was heading from Pune to Mumbai when it veered off the road and plunged into a gorge near Shingroba temple, killing at least 12 people and leaving 27 others injured. The accident occurred at 4:50 a.m. under the Khopoli police station limits.

The victims were part of the “Baji Prabhu Vaadak Group” from Mumbai’s Goregaon, who were returning after performing at an event in the Pune district. According to officials, the bus left the venue at around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

The injured were rushed to the Khopoli Rural Hospital, while the dead were from Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in the Palghar district. Additional SP Atul Zende revealed that the deceased and the injured were aged between 18 and 25.

The news of the tragic accident has sent shockwaves across the state. A team of local police and a trekker’s group are currently engaged in the rescue operation. The town of Khopoli is located approximately 70 kilometers from Mumbai.
