Mumbai (India), 04/08/23: Ghoomer, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, has released its trailer, which gives a glimpse into the story of a cricketer, played by Kher, who loses her right arm in an accident. Abhishek portrays her coach, who makes it his aim to help her become a successful cricketer.

The trailer depicts her narrative of being picked for the national team and then losing her arm in a vehicle accident just as everything is going well for her. The training sequence in which Bachchan’s character learns her to use her left hand just as efficiently serves as the plot’s pivot point.

We ultimately see her representing Team India. The film also stars Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi, Amitabh Bachchan also appears in the trailer for the film.

Ghoomer’s concept was inspired by the life of Hungarian right-hand shooter Karoly Takacs, and was directed by R Balki. After injuring his right hand, he won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand. Balki was impressed by this achievement and decided to turn it into a cricket film.

He told PTI at India’s 53rd International Film Festival, “I suggested let’s make it a cricket film rather than a shooting film as people will take a lot of time to understand (the sport).”

Balki went on to say that there have been many films on cricket and that he did not want to make another one. He elaborated, “If I’m doing (just) a cricket film, what would I give back to cricket or the sport? We did a lot of research and actually came up with a new delivery, which cricket has not seen… So, that’s interesting.”

R Balki recently directed ‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’, starring Dulquer Salmaan. He earlier collaborated with Abhishek Bachchan on the film ‘Paa’. ‘Ghoomer’ is set to hit theatres on August 18.
