Delhi (India), Feb. 7, 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack against the BJP’s Tripura challengers, Congress, the Left, and TIPRA Motha, as he kicked off his party’s campaign for a second straight victory in the February 16th elections.

Speaking at two rallies in Santirbari and Khowai and a massive Agartala road show, Shah accused Congress, the Communists, and Motha of being “corrupt” and said, “Congress gave you andhkaar (darkness); we have given you adhikaar (rights). I have a firm belief that you all will make the lotus bloom here in Tripura again.”

The BJP government in Tripura, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has brought a new dawn of peace and development, Shah said. He urged people to vote for the BJP again in massive numbers and ensure a landslide victory.

Shah also cautioned voters against the “criminal rule of communists” and the “corrupt rule of Congress” and warned that if they voted for TIPRA Motha, it would ultimately benefit the Communists.

This attack comes weeks after talks between Motha leader and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and Shah’s ministry failed over the former’s demand for a separate state of Tipraland for natives.

Shah accused both Congress and Communists of ignoring the state despite running governments for around 50 years, and highlighted that incidents of violence and crime in the state have declined 30% in just five years of BJP rule. He added that the “cadre rule of the communists has been replaced with the constitutional rule of the BJP.”
