Two persons, including an elderly man, were killed while 10 others were injured when two cars collided near Samhalkha Chowk in Southwest Delhi’s Kapasahera on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surender Kumar said the driver of one of the cars has been booked for causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving. The victims — Ram Prakash (62) and Vicky Mandal (in his 30s) — were travelling with nine others in a Chevrolet Enjoy to the Kadarpur colony in Gurgaon sector 23 when their car while taking a U-turn was hit by a speeding Verna, driven by the accused Peeyush (18).

The two men sitting by the window sustained head injuries that led to their death. The police said the victims had gone to attend a wedding function in Janakpuri and were drunk while returning. Eyewitnesses say that both the cars were speeding when the incident happened.

Mr. Kumar said Peeyush took his Class XII exam this year and just turned 18. He is the son of a businessman in Pushpanjali. He was returning from Samalkha and did not have a driving licence at the time of the accident. When the police probed, it was revealed that he had not yet got a licence. A case was registered with the Kapashera PS following the incident.
