Dehradun, 08/07/2023: The Uttarakhand government announced today that the draft of the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report is expected to be submitted by July 15.
Sources assured that the expert committee constituted for the task is currently busy giving the final touches to the draft report and is in its final stages.
Another important meeting of the committee to discuss the final provisions of the Uniform Civil Code will be held in Delhi on July 9.
The documents and annexures linked to the relevant legal provisions were also included in support of the recommendations and the preparation of the committee’s report. This comes as the state CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reportedly said that a special Vidhan Sabha session may also be convened on the Uniform Civil Code, if necessary.
The developments are traced back to June 30, when CM Dhammi announced that the committee tasked with preparing the draft of the UCC, which is to be implemented in the state, worked with a cross-section of citizens over the last one year and spoke to more than 2 lakh people and critical stakeholders, and informed that the draft was nearing completion.
